Mirno more is the greeting of Dalmatian seafarers and means something like "peaceful sea". Founded in 1994 after the Balkan War by the Austrian association Mirno More, the project started with a few children from the war-torn regions of the former Yugoslavia, with the aim of fostering peaceful coexistence on board ships.

The project has since grown to over 100 boats with participants from more than 30 nations, still aiming to overcome exclusion, promote inclusion and tolerance, and discard prejudices. In 2009, the Mirno More Nuremberg association was founded, enabling children and young people from Nuremberg to participate in this unique project as part of the crew.
Since 2013, students from the Werderau campus of the Nuremberg secondary school have participated in what has become the world's largest sailing project for disadvantaged children and young people in Croatia. Until 2023, the project was run by the Freiraum children's and youth center of the AWO Nuremberg district youth organization, in cooperation with the youth social work department at the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Herschel School in Nuremberg. To prepare for the sailing week, the school campus crew meets beforehand with other crews from Nuremberg for a taster session at the Yacht Club Noris on the Dutzendteich lake and prepares for the week they will spend together on board.
In the Peace Fleet program, participating children and young people learn important social skills in interacting with one another. Since the 2019/2020 school year, the school has also been focusing on values within the school community as a universal language, lived by everyone in the school regardless of culture, religion, language, or social background. Through grassroots democratic processes, shared core values that unite all members of the school community have been developed: respect, kindness, solidarity, trust, and non-violence.
The school's values should not only be lived out in everyday school life, but their sustainability should also be fostered through projects like the Mirno More Peace Fleet. Furthermore, participants should be empowered through opportunities for self-efficacy, strengthening their self-confidence.
The participants spend a week living aboard a sailing ship, experiencing teamwork, gaining an insight into sailing, and forging friendships with other children and young people from across Europe. They are supported and accompanied by two experienced volunteer skippers, a teacher, and a youth social worker. In keeping with the school's values, values such as solidarity, respect, and friendly interaction are practiced on board. A week that is truly invaluable.
The participants appreciated the week on the ship. At the end of the week, comments like "Thank you for this unforgettable week" or "That was the coolest week of the whole year" were heard.
