Training room

The training room at our school is a room where teachers practice appropriate classroom behavior with students.

Our training room has proven its worth since 2015, as it allows us to deal with classroom disruptions differently. Instead of the usual sanctions, such as reprimands, which punish undesirable behavior, the measures in the training room serve both to de-escalate tensions in the classroom and to prevent future disruptions.

Students who, for various reasons, are unable to follow the lesson and its rules are sent to the training room by the teacher. This allows the teacher to prevent escalation in the classroom and avoid prolonged, argument-filled disruptions. The other students can continue learning without interruption.

In the training room itself, the registered student discusses the reasons for their behavior and their needs with the training room teacher in order to develop a preliminary plan for behavioral change in class. With this plan, the student can then return to class to practice their planned behavior. At a pre-arranged time, the plan and the student's actual behavior are reviewed – again in the familiar pairing (student/training room teacher).
